Who is eligible for Ghanaian Passport

Ghanaian passports are issued exclusively by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to Ghanaians granted citizenship in accordance with the Ghanaian nationality law. There are three types of passport booklets – contemporary (regular), service, and diplomatic passports. Ghanaian passport booklets are valid for travel by Ghanaians anywhere in the world. More than one valid Ghanaian passport of the same type may not be held.

Contemporary(Regular) Passports

Contemporary Ghanaian passports are the standard type of passport issued by the Government of Ghana. They are dark green in color and contain the holder’s personal information, including their name, date of birth, and nationality. Service Passports

To apply for a passport online, you will need to meet the following requirements:

First Time Passport Applicants

What you need to apply for the passport.
Scan and attach the following:

  1. Birth Certificate(Proof of Ghanaian citizenship)
  2. Documents to support Identity such as Driver’s Licence, National ID card
  3. Proof of Profession (An introductory letter from the applicant’s employer that is if the applicant is currently employed or a work ID card that bears applicant’s name, organisation’s name and position. A student ID if the applicant is currently in school. Homemakers/housewives and applicants that are unemployed and those in the non-formal sector of employment like mechanics, hairdressers seamstresses, traders etc. do not need proof. Registered Business Owners and self-employed applicants must produce their business registration certificate as proof)

To get started, you need to pay for the passport application either digitally through your credit card or MoMo in order to obtain the passport application code. How to Apply for a Ghanaian Passport Online

Now here are the online steps in the application process for a Ghana passport:

APPLICATION JOURNEY FOR ALL APPLICANT TYPES

Steps

  • Click on Passport Office
  • Click on “Apply”

 

  • Click “OK”

 

  • Click on “Sign Up” at the right-corner of your screen
  • Enter your details as shown in the screenshot below

  • Click on “Continue” after completing the details
  • A One Time Password (OPT) would be sent to the phone number provided during the registration.
  • Enter the OTP and hit “Continue”
  • Click on “Apply”
  • Search for the Passport Office
  • Click on “Apply”
  • You would be redirected to a different page as shown below

  • Click on “Authorize” to enable the application share your details with the Passport Application portal

  • You will be redirected to the passport application platform as shown below to either Make Payment or Verify Voucher

 

Once you complete the above steps successfully you will need to click on your name at the top right corner or you can click on  My Applications at the top left corner which will lead you to your dashboard where your application form will be made available for you to fill out online. 

If you are just beginning the process, your application will be displayed under uncompleted applications where you have the chance to fill out the form provided. The form progress can be saved whiles you work on it hence you can return back to proceed where you left off.

 

 

The history tab on the dashboard displays your completed application form. Here you can print your form and view the details provided.

Once you complete the form-filling process you will be directed to book an appointment at one of the Passport Application Centers across the country. You do have the option to select the available date that is suitable for you.
